Broncos add new defenseman commit

Mar 9, 2023 | 5:27 PM

The Humboldt Broncos have announced 2005-born defenceman Parker Carrier has committed to the organization for the 2023-24 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season.

The Calgary, Alta., product competed for his hometown Royals this season, at the U18 AAA level.

In 19 regular season games played, he collected 10 points, by finding the back of the net twice, while adding eight helpers.

“Parker is a D-man we’ve had our eyes on for a long time,” said head coach and general manager Scott Barney. “He’s the prototypical new-aged blueliner who’s a fluid skater with offensive instincts, while also defending at a high level. We, as an organization, are ecstatic that Parker and his family decided to be a Bronco over the other opportunities he’s received.”

Carrier’s Royals were eliminated from the 2023 playoffs when they lost in the divisional semi-finals.

In the team’s postseason run, he scored another two goals, after suiting up in six games.

Carrier has also shown the ability to stay out of the box, as the disciplined d-man only spent 18 minutes in the penalty box, through his combined 25 games played.

“Parker is an elite-level defenseman in the AEHL U18 AAA system,” added Humboldt Broncos’ head scout Jamie Armitage. “It’s been great to follow his progress, see his strong development curve, and get to know his character off the ice as well.”

Carrier also spent time with the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), this year, serving as an affiliate player.

The Bandits finished the year as the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s (CJHL) top-ranked team, after a 53-5-1-1 record.

The Humboldt Broncos and the City of Humboldt welcomed Carrier and his family to the organization and community.

Meanwhile, the Broncos have three games left on their schedule, as they try to lock up the league’s number two seed.

The green and gold currently sit one point ahead of the Flin Flon Bombers, with a game in hand and the season-series win (3-2).
