Melfort Mustangs netminder Joel Favreau has won the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s (SJHL) SaskTel Goalie of the Week award.

The Prince Albert product took home the league’s final weekly regular season award, after helping the blue and green clinch home-ice advantage for the first round of the playoffs.

The 20-year-old did so after backstopping his team to two straight road division wins, one against the Flin Flon Bombers on Mar. 7, and the other against the Nipawin Hawks on Mar. 10.

In that span, he had a 2-0 record, which included a 1.50 goals against average, a .947 save percentage, and one shutout.

Favreau also marks the only goaltender entering the postseason, who has previously started in at least one playoff game.

It appears he is getting into fine form ahead of his final playoff run in Junior hockey, as he also finished the season with the third-best goals against average in the entire league at 2.56.

Favreau will look to will his team to another two divisional victories this weekend, now at home, as the Mustangs host the La Ronge Ice Wolves for games one and two of the first round, Friday and Saturday, at the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort.
