Mustangs fall in double overtime thriller at Palace
It’s a game that will likely live in Northern Lights Palace lore, but unfortunately, Tuesday night’s contest resulted in a Melfort Mustangs loss to the Battlefords North Stars— a 1-0 decision in double overtime.
Fans certainly got an entertaining game that saw chances at both ends, but both goalies standing tall as four full periods went by without anyone tickling the twine.
In double overtime, a turnover at the Melfort blue line resulted in a breakaway for the league’s leading goal scorer Kian Bell. Bell made no mistake for his 11th of the playoffs, and it gave the North Stars a 3-0 lead in the series.
Mustangs netminder Joel Favreau stopped 42 of 43 shots he saw in the contest, and said it was a heartbreaking game, but also a game to remember.
