The Melfort Skate celebrated the end of its season with its annual awards banquet.

Skaters, coaches, families and volunteers gathered to highlight the success of the 2022-23 skating season.

Coach Shauna Klettberg told northeastNOW it was a great way to wrap up the year.

“It’s pretty exciting that we can all get together in the same room and kind of celebrate our skaters recognize our volunteers and our sponsors.”

Taking home the most promising awards included STARSkate Dancer Alexis Berg and New CanSkater Reed Taylor.

Most improved skater awards went to STARSkater Sophie Leland, PreSTARSkater Blakelyn Bear, CanSkater Stacey Ferguson, and PrePower Skater Austin Enns.

The top prize of the evening was STARSkater of the Year which was given to Jasmine Masangkay.

Also winning awards was Cassidy Scott, Annagail Ell, Lauren McLean, Ketana Mendoza, Archer Noey, Archer Noey, Callie Baumgartner, Anya Du Toit, Penny Baumgartner, Alyssa Ferguson, Samantha Loon and Carter Taylor.

Klettberg said the night is not only a way to celebrate those in the skating community but a way to recognise the work skaters do or those coming into the sport.

“Not only are they dedicated to their own training, but also to sharing their knowledge with the young, learn-to-skate athletes.”

The weekend not only included the awards ceremony but a carnival event.
