TV documentary on food hits Meadow Lake and Flying Dust First Nation

Get your remotes and your appetite ready as two northern communities will be featured on a new documentary on the journey of food.

The series Flat Out Food tells the story of one ingredient per episode, following its journey from the garden to the chef’s table.

“Our host, Jenn Sharpe uncovers the story of the ingredient but the people behind the ingredient as well,” said Director and Producer Adrian Halter.

The crew with Halter Media, spent four days in Meadow Lake and Flying Dust First Nation last August.

“We feature the River Side Market Garden in our potato episode and the bison they have at Flying Dust in our Bison episode,” said Halter. “Everything was great, we were able to capture some gorgeous shots of the area.”

The potato episode airs Wednesday night at 10 p.m. on City TV with the Bison episode scheduled for Sunday at the same time.

It’s not the first time a documentary series has been filmed in the northern part of Saskatchewan. Earlier this year, the show Guardians of the North premiered on CityTV and showcased northern emergency personnel during the wildfires in 2021.

For Halter, filming this series was a unique experience for him, having never filmed in the northern part of the province before.

“I think it was kind of special to be there and showcase that part of the province. It was a good opportunity to see a part of the province that doesn’t get showcased as much.”
