Humboldt Broncos give substantial donation to Memorials Committee

The Humboldt Broncos Junior A hockey club was recently able to give a significant donation to the Humboldt Broncos Memorials Committee (HBMC).

The team had been receiving constant donations, since the tragic bus crash back in 2018, and had been deciding where those funds would go.

In the months following, the organization, along with volunteers, MNP, and the local Conexus Credit Union branch diligently looked over each and every offering.

In many cases, they were able to track down and speak to donors, to ask them what their specific wishes were, if any.

This led to most of the contributions being distributed to individuals, families, and other organizations, however, a large sum still remained.

“Following the tragedy that occurred on April 6, 2018, we received an outpouring of support in material and monetary donations from all over the world,” said the Broncos in a statement. “This support has, and continues to mean, a lot to our organization and those affected. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their empathy and compassion.”

The current Board of Directors for the club has since decided to pass these funds on to a worthy cause that best memorializes and pays tribute to the 2017-18 Humboldt Broncos team and staff involved in the tragedy.

Therefore, on Wednesday, they presented a cheque in the amount of $275,000 to the Memorials Committee to go towards the Tribute Campaign.

“We are so grateful for the Humboldt Broncos Team and Board for supporting the committee and our mission,” said Rob Muench, Chairman of the HBMC. “This contribution is another step towards our goal of remembering, in a positive way, those lost and those forever changed that day.”

There are also currently several other organizations, such as Humboldt Strong, Humboldt Strong Charitable Foundation, and the Humboldt Broncos Memorial Golf Tournament, however, they exist independently, with their own boards and mandates.

As for the HBMC, the Broncos organization continues to have representation with them, and “fully supports its mandate and vision for the establishment of permanent memorials at the crash site and in Humboldt.”
