Golf Saskatchewan recently elected a new president and it’s someone quite familiar with the northeast area.

Kevin Duchscherer will take over the reins, while also currently serving as the president of the Evergreen Golf Course in Nipawin, and teaching in Carrot River.

Duchscherer told northeastNOW he’s beyond excited about the opportunity and hopes to continue to grow the game.

“I’m thrilled to be able to lead what I feel is a very strong group of individuals who care a lot about the game,” he said. “We have varying ages and experiences on the board that I think gives us a lot of different perspectives, similar to what our membership is like, so hopefully, we’re doing really good stuff in the future to promote the game.”

Duchscherer has been a member of the board since 2016 and has served the last two years as vice president.

He was promoted to the president’s role after their former president had to step down because their three-year term reached its completion.

“I started with the association around 2014, and I originally got involved when my daughter started competing as a junior, so I’d come and done some volunteer work with the organization first. Then, talking with some of the people I met, they encouraged me to run for the board, and now, they were willing to support me in becoming the new president.”

Duchscherer will now have two years left to serve as president, before he has to step down, like his predecessor.

He explained golf has grown during the pandemic, and is hoping he is able to keep those numbers up during his time.

“My hope is that we can keep the interest in the game up amongst the public… I’m hoping the sport will be more and more inclusive as time goes along,” he added.

“All these different groups not only have the opportunity to become a bigger part of the sport itself, but I’d like to think that as they become more involved, they’ll bring their strengths along with them too, and hopefully make the game even better all around.”

Duchscherer was named president at Golf Saskatchewan’s latest AGM, this past Saturday.

According to the non-profit organization, they lost roughly $54,000 last year, however, have stated that their funds are “healthy” going into this season.
