Former Bronco commits to University of Windsor

The Humboldt Broncos have announced that another one of their graduating players has decided to extend their hockey and academic careers at the U Sports level.

2002-born forward Jacob Boucher has committed to play for the University of Windsor Lancers for the 2023/24 season.

Prior to his time in the SJHL, the St. Albert, Alta. product spent three full seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL), with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, Edmonton Oil Kings, and Vancouver Giants.

In 64 career games in the WHL, he registered 12 goals and 18 assists, good for 30 points.

Boucher was originally acquired by Humboldt, back in 2021, through a trade with the Surrey Eagles. However, he did not make his green and gold debut until October of this season.

He had an immediate impact for the Broncos when he first arrived, putting up 17 points in his first nine games.

“We’re very excited for Jacob to land the commitment to Windsor and play USPORTS Hockey to further his education and hockey career,” said head coach and general manager, Scott Barney. “He’s an impact player with very highly gifted offensive abilities. He’s going to contribute right away at the next level.”

The five-foot-eight, 160-pound, left winger finished his final year of junior eligibility, racking up 36 points in 40 regular season games, before adding nine points in 10 playoff contests.

Meanwhile, Windsor finished the 2022/23 season with an 18-6 record, which was good for the second-best record in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) West conference.

They would go on to defeat the Brock Badgers and the Lakehead Thunderwolves in the playoffs before losing to the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) Patriots in the OUA Championships.
