Nearly 20 positions filled at Prince Albert, Nipawin, & La Ronge online schooling campuses

Over 100 positions have been filled within the new Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre (Sask DLC).

This will be the main hub for online education in the province with the main campus set in Kenaston, while communities like Prince Albert, Nipawin, and La Ronge will be home to one of nine regional campuses.

Over 500 applications were received in just around a month’s time with the province filling 129 positions with 30 still vacant. These positions include educators, superintendents, and principals.

Four teachers have been hired to work at P.A.’s campus, while four positions are still looking to be filled.

A principal has been hired for Nipawin’s campus, while four of the seven teaching positions have been spoken for.

As for La Ronge’s campus, the province has already hired a principal and nine teachers with plans to hire one more teacher.

“Our government is extremely pleased with the level of interest that teachers have shown in working for the new online school,” said Dustin Duncan, Saskatchewan’s Education Minister. “We look forward to bringing together top talent from around the province to provide high quality, flexible online education to students, regardless of where they live in the province.”

The province is also planning on hiring student support staff for each campus. They’ll provide direct support to students whether in person or online.

They’re also in the process of hiring people to look after finances, information technology, human resources, and communications.

Meanwhile, students from kindergarten to Grade 12 can still register online.

They can choose to be a full-time or part-time online student. They’ll still be connected to their local school division, giving them access to local supports and activities such as speech-language pathologists and educational psychology assessments.

The Sask DLC is also free for all children under the age of 22.

“Sask DLC is excited to see so many students accessing online learning across the province,” said Darren Gasper, Sask DLC CEO. “More courses mean more opportunities for students to find a subject they love and be set up for a successful future.”
