Watson’s Quill Plains Centennial Lodge officially in the planning stages

The Town of Watson’s new care home is officially in the early planning stage.

The Government of Saskatchewan announced that Quill Plains Centennial Lodge is taking a leap toward construction following the completion of the needs assessment.

“Our government is committed to providing safe and comfortable care for seniors throughout Saskatchewan,” said Everett Hindley, Saskatchewan’s Rural and Remote Health Minister.

The needs assessment found that there is a future need for roughly seven additional long-term care beds in Watson. Right now, there are just 53 beds.

Saskatchewan Health Authority Vice President of Quality, Safety, and Chief Information Officer Michelle Mula explained in a release that supporting Watson is something they are glad they’re able to do.

“Through the business case phase, the Saskatchewan Health Authority will help inform the types of health services that are critical to this community as we continue to prioritize care as close to home as possible.”

Now that the needs assessment is complete, the project is moving into the business case phase.

This will include an analysis of infrastructure options such as scoping of the building and land size requirements, as well as environmental and heritage reviews, traffic impact assessments, a preliminary high-level cost estimate, and a procurement options analysis.

The business case phase simply prepares those involved in the project to enter into pre-design and design aspects. It also supports fundraising efforts.

The 2023-24 budget has set aside $1 million for the project as it is part of the Government of Saskatchewan’s $3.7 billion capital plan.
