Creighton golfer wins Northern Ladies Championship in P.A.

A golfer from Creighton was able to show off her talents at the Northern Ladies Championship in Prince Albert.

Over 60 golfers from across the province competed in the annual tournament held at Cooke Municipal Golf Course, however, it was Lauren Fox who took home the win after shooting 78 in both of her rounds.

She told reporters her chipping and putting were what put her over the top.

“My long game wasn’t super great, but my short game was super good. I had a lot of up and downs,” she said.”

Fox had extra motivation to win this year after placing third in last year’s competition.

While she’s only played at Cooke a handful of times, she explained she looks forward to coming down and competing any chance she gets.

“There’s not a lot of competitive golf, especially in the ladies’ division, up in Creighton,” she said.

Coming in second was P.A.’s own Pauline McDougall. Despite being seven shots behind Fox, she was crowned as the senior ladies’ champion.

“I’m pretty happy, I didn’t give up and I hung in there,” she said.

McDougall previously won this tournament back in 2013 and is excited to say she’s now a multi-time winner. She also joked it was nice to show the younger golfers that she can keep up with them, even though she didn’t come out on top.

“I don’t hit the ball far off the tee, Lauren hits it a mile,” she laughed.

Fellow golfer Marly Ring was also recognized at the end of the tournament as she was awarded the Nadia Gisi Memorial Spirit of Golf Honour. This is given to the player who shows the best spirit and respect for the game while on the course.
