City of Humboldt offers support following Manitoba highway crash

Jun 16, 2023 | 4:24 PM

The City of Humboldt released a statement on Friday regarding the tragic bus crash that happened in Manitoba yesterday.

“The community of Humboldt sends heartfelt condolences and empathy to those affected by the bus tragedy that occurred on Thursday, June 15, 2023, near Carberry, Manitoba,” the release read.

The crash involved a semi-truck and a bus at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) and Highway 5. As a result, 15 people were killed and another ten were injured, six of whom are said to be in critical condition.

The crash reflects that of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash in 2018 which killed 16 people and injured 13 others when the coach bus carrying the team and a semi-truck collided at the intersection of Highways 35 and 335 near Armley, SK.

“I send my deepest condolences to the community of Dauphin,” said Humboldt Mayor Michael Behiel in the release. “I encourage everyone to show Dauphin the same love and support that the City of Humboldt has been receiving since April 2018.”

The release went on to highlight that a tragedy like this can bring back many difficult feelings for those impacted by the Humboldt Broncos crash.
