National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrated across the northeast

National Indigenous Peoples Day was celebrated in multiple communities across the northeast on Wednesday.

This includes Melfort as several different events were held to recognize the day, ranging from Indigenous storytelling to a large art project where people of all skills could take part in.

Many in Nipawin also took time to take part in different activities.

A large celebration was also held in Humboldt. Around 150 people took part and got to watch as flags of local First Nation groups, the Métis, Treaty 4 and 6, and different levels of government get raised.

Several other communities also took part in recognizing the day.

According to Katie Adair, the Chair of Tisdale Reconciliation, her community celebrated the day for the first time in its history.
