Village of Love planning to fundraise to save historic community hall

The Village of Love is looking to raise funds to keep its community hall open.

Rumours have been circulating that the building has been condemned, however, this is false. The truth is that the hall needs to be renovated as its currently dealing with structural issues on the roof and south wall.

Mayor Shelley Vallier told northeastNOW the village has no interest in tearing it down and building a new one.

“People love that community hall, our festivals alone we’ve had over 50 winter festivals and generation after generation keeps coming back like kids or people that used to come now their grandchildren and great-grandchildren are coming and participating in our events,” she said.

Vallier added the building has also been the site for many baptisms, weddings, and even funerals. Due to all this history, they’d rather just update the community hall.

Despite renovating being the cheaper option, it’s still expected to be quite expensive. Vallier explained they don’t have a proper number but should know more after an engineer takes a look.

“(They) need to come to the hall and take measurements and just have a look at how everything is right now,” added Vallier.

Once they have a rough number, the plan is to hold at least one fundraiser to try and get the money needed. Back in 2021, the Village ended up fundraising $10,000 for its chapel in just a month, so they’re optimistic.

Vallier noted the Love and District Recreation committee will start with a 50/50 draw, starting most likely on July 1.

She added they’d like to have the community hall up and running again sooner rather than later.

“We’ve held more than 50 winter festivals in that hall and that’s in February of 2024 will be the next one,” said Vallier. “So we definitely want to make sure that we have it done by then.”
