Mustangs’ Evans commits to University of Dubuque

A Melfort Mustangs forward has committed to playing post-secondary hockey at the NCAA Division III level.

Tye Evans, the 2003-born forward has announced his commitment to the University of Dubuque Spartans for the 2023/24 season.

Evans spent parts of the last two season with the Blue and Green, which most recently included the 2022/23 season.

In 42 regular season games, he scored six goals while adding 11 assists for 17 points. Meanwhile, in the playoffs, he added one goal and two assists in eight games.

The Grand Prairie, Alberta product actually began the 2022/23 year and ended the 2021/22 campaign with the La Ronge Ice Wolves, where in 44 combined games he scored nine times and had 20 helpers, good for 29 points.

Evans started his Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) career with the Stangs in 2021/22, scoring twice and adding an assist as well.

Prior to joining the SJHL, the 5-9, 154-pound, left-shot spent two seasons with his hometown Grand Prairie Storm U18 AAA club. In 40 career games with the organization, he posted 21 points.

The University of Dubuque Spartans play out of Dubuque, Iowa as part of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) and are new to NCAA III hockey as of the 2023/2024 season.
