CATSask holds first-ever adoption event in Melfort

A non-profit organization is helping cats find the purr-fect place by holding their first-ever adoption event.

With the opening of a new pet store in Melfort, Cat Action Teams of Saskatchewan (CATSask) and Pet Valu partnered together to help cats in need of a good home.

Brenda Orr with CATSask said that the turnout was good and a few cats at the event have found a loving home.

“Three cats adopted. At present time we have around 45 adoptable cats.”

There are presently 27 kittens in the organization but some are not ready to go quite yet.

Cat Action Teams of Saskatchewan (CATSask) is a charitable cat rescue that operates out of Melfort but helps cats in need across the province.

Orr explained that the shelter operates at capacity 24/7 but also shared that there is another rescue that people can reach out to if they notice an animal in need.

“I would say reach out for help to the SPCA if they are local or in areas covered by the SPCA. Our reach is far and wide and we take in from areas they won’t touch.”

Although CATSask operates in the Northeast they take cats in need from across the province and as far as Manitoba.

For those wanting to help protect their cats or who are thinking about getting a cat in the future, Orr reminds animal lovers far and wide to spay and neuter their four-legged friends.

“It’s a one-time cost and it’s a game changer for the cat and the owner.”
