The beauty of books is on display at the Kerry Vickar Centre

The beauty of a good book is being showcased at the Kerry Vickar Centre (KVC) thanks to a group of talented artists.

The Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild (CBBAG) has brought a collection of bound books from artists with two from the northeast featured.

Gail Copeland and Georgia Jardine have submitted their pieces that can be viewed at the gallery until July 31.

Jardine told northeastNOW that the idea came from a group of artists in Toronto who wanted to share their passion for art across the country and the Saskatchewan CBBAG branch helped make the exhibit possible.

“They reached out to other book artists in the province. They chose this month for the Kerry Vickar Centre to have the exhibit,” she said.

There are more than 90 books for visitors to see at the exhibit with six books from Copeland and three books by Jardine.

“There are all different kinds of styles as you can see in the exhibit,” Jardine added.

With different styles come different time commitments to perfecting the craft as the typical book takes about two days to bind with additional time for additional details on each page.

As for what Jardine fills her books with, her speciality is calligraphy and said it all started with a trip to the library.

“I just got a book out of a library and thought that I could just start on my own,” she said. “I noticed an ad in the paper for calligraphy classes that were starting up. So I took the classes and then I joined their guild.”

Jardine encourages all up-and-coming artists to reach out to those in the community to help mentor them.
