Tattoo charity event giving back to youth in the northeast

Tattoo enthusiasts and first-timers alike can donate to charity while getting a flash design at a first-of-its-kind event.

A tradeshow filled with oddities and curiosities is hitting the Tisdale Civic Centre on August 18 to celebrate the unique space that body art brings to communities.

Jacey Langen told northeastNOW that they have done charity tattoo events in the past, but they switch up where the money is going every year.

“We are supporting kids the year. This is based in Melfort, it’s called Youth Matters. The other one is the Wildlife Federation Archery Program. They help pay for their equipment, trips, hotels and whatever they need.”

For $60 you can get a tattoo and choose which charity you would like your money to go towards. This year, you need to come to the event and register for a spot once you get there.

This event has been held previously and the success of those events has made a significant impact on local organizations.

“Last year, it was the northeast SPCA. $10 for each tattoo would go towards the NESPCA or they could bring a donation,” Langen explained.

As a result of last year’s fundraiser, they gave $1,300 to the SPCA and a car full of essential items such as food, cat litter and treats to the shelter.

Not only does Langen hope that the event raises money for charity but she hopes this is an opportunity for more people to explore the world of tattooing and how the industry is changing and blossoming.

“It’s definitely still like the niche of men to be in this field. It’s not just the rough, the tough, the biker look. There’s a lot more femininity coming out.”

The event this year is tailored towards people coming out and seeing things that people may not typically be able to access in smaller communities.

As for what you can see at the show, Langen has a whole lineup of unique exhibits available for attendees.

“That means things that are not the norm here. We have the witch’s experience coming. We have someone who goes all around the world and finds creatures, bugs and all sorts of unique and amazing butterflies.”

There will also be piercings, body paint, hair tinsel and hair feathers for those wanting to take home a souvenir that is less permanent than a tattoo.
