Sask. government reports more than $35K in public losses
Getting paid more than $29,000 for overtime shifts they didn’t work has cost a Saskatchewan Health Authority employee their job.
That was one of the losses of public money reported by the Saskatchewan government on Tuesday. In total, there were more than $35,000 in losses reported over five incidents.
Saskatchewan health organizations revealed $32,777 of those losses in their first-quarter report, covering April 1 to June 30. According to the government, those incidents included:
- An SHA employee in Saskatoon was paid for overtime shifts that weren’t worked between July 2020 and July 2022, resulting in a loss of $29,660. The report said the individual resigned and was placed on the cautionary hire list, and the Saskatoon Police Service was contacted.
- A Saskatoon-based SHA employee took a parking transponder out of an SHA-owned vehicle and used it for their own vehicle between July 2022 and this past April, causing a loss of $1,117. The individual was fired, the report said, but criminal charges aren’t being considered.
- An SHA employee in Weyburn took cleaning supplies and equipment for their personal use in May of this year, leading to a loss of $2,000. The report said the employee was fired and the matter was reported to the Weyburn Police Service, which laid mischief charges.
