A popular YouTuber recently made a stop in the northeast.

Alina Mcleod, who currently has over 240,000 subscribers, visited Melfort where she showed off what the community has to offer.

She was originally born in Ukraine but grew up in Kinistino, so she already knows the area quite well.

Mcleod told northeastNOW small-town Saskatchewan has a special place in her heart.

“It feels very comforting and nice to just slow down. I always love coming back to Saskatchewan.”

Just before making her trip to Melfort, she was in Tokyo which is the most populous city in the world.

However, she explained she was just as excited to see some of her old friends and visit some old stomping grounds. Although, she did wish the restaurant Jugheads was in business as she dubbed that her favourite place to get a burger.

In her Melfort video, she stops at RJ’s Urban Garden, the Melfort Mall, and outside the historic post office with her father by her side.

As for those who watch her videos and aspire to follow in her footsteps of a creative career, she reminds people that it wasn’t always a full-time job.

Mcleod recalls waitressing and taking odd jobs just to make ends meet so that she could continue to pursue her dream job.

“If you are going to go into any sort of creative space where almost for sure you’re not going to be paid well or at all, to begin with, it has to be something that you’re truly passionate about and that you enjoy doing.”

She noted that the first video in which views started to come in was her travel video on her trip to Moldova. Although her career showcases places like Moldova, she encourages everyone to visit Saskatchewan to explore what the northeast area has to offer.
