The Melfort Mustangs recently hosted their 2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM) to discuss the prior year, as well as the next steps for the upcoming 12 months.

Finances, expenses, revenue, and fundraising were all topics of discussion.

The club also appointed three new board members as they held a board meeting after the AGM.

“(The AGM) it was good,” said Hana Grace, the new director of marketing and office administration.

“We had our board meeting following it, where we covered a lot of stuff. It was a lot of just appointing new board members, talking about the audit and all of the stuff financially within the club, and getting to meet some people within the community, which is good for me who’s new and doesn’t really know anyone. It was good to see everyone come out.”

According to Grace, the biggest point of discussion was just how to keep the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) team to ‘stay in the black’.

In 2023, the Mustangs’ total general and administrative expenses were $86,738 compared to $79,578 in 2022, the total regular season and playoff expenses were $696,722 compared to $594,089, their cash resources are at $42,546 compared to $112,663, their net assets are $265,675 compared to $266,544, their excess of revenue over expenses is -$869 compared to $63,051, and their net assets are $288,341 compared to $283,916.

For Grace, this was her first AGM with Melfort, however, she said the community was ‘super receptive’.

“Everyone was really nice and welcoming. Our board members were super good, the ones that I just met last night, so I feel very welcomed and I feel like it’ll be a good and supportive year.”

The Stangs also announced that they will have an additional game in their upcoming pre-season schedule.

The blue and green will host the Flin Flon Bombers for an exhibition matchup on Sept. 12 at the Northern Lights Palace.
