Curbside appeal

Communities in Bloom is celebrating the beauty of Melfort

Keeping Melfort beautiful is something that residents and businesses are being rewarded for thanks to Communities in Bloom (CiB).

CiB and Scotts Miracle-Gro have partnered up to provide special recognition to those in the community who have beautiful curb appeal.

Peggy George with CiB told northeastNOW that you can’t put a price on what community pride does for Melfort.

“There are so many people in town that take care and pride in their front yards. It gives a warm, fuzzy feeling to people driving into town regardless of if it’s the first time or the 100th time.”

With 12 prizes to dish out to community members, the organization picked two homes from each neighbourhood in the city.

As for businesses, George acknowledged the hard work that the community has done over the past year to refresh and rejuvenate the community.

“There were about six businesses that redid their storefronts. There are lots of people that also just keep what they have weed-free and sparkling clean.”

On top of the work that was done to make Melfort a top destination to visit, the organization has acknowledged donors who make their efforts possible.

Two signs have been installed to recognize donors who contributed to big projects in the community. The first acknowledgment post is at the Grain Elevator sign and the other is at the Agnes Blackwell memorial sign.

With the fall season approaching, CiB is hosting its fall festival on Sept. 16 to celebrate the end of the growing season. The events are set to take place from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Spruce Haven Park.
