House fire southeast of Star City deemed total loss

The Melfort Fire Department was called out on Monday afternoon to deal with a house fire southeast of the Town of Star City.

Shortly before 2 p.m. on September 11, crews responded to the call and were able to contain the blaze.

The structure, however, was deemed a total loss as firefighters were on scene for nearly 26 hours, having not left until three in the afternoon on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

No firefighters were injured during the response, as the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, as well as local RCMP members were on the scene.

An investigation has begun and is still underway as the cause of the fire is currently unknown with more details still expected to come.
