Aspen Meadows carries on legacy of Mel Annand

A northeast resident is having his legacy carried on by friends and family in a big way.

Aspen Meadows is a community just north of Melfort. The community aims to balance the solitude of acreage life with the community aspect of a town.

Just as the project was nearing the time when people could apply for lots in the community, one of the founders Mel Annand passed away leaving behind a family to carry on his hopes for the future of Aspen Meadows.

Owner Lacy Annand told northeastNOW that her father was one of the visionaries when it came to putting everything together and making sure the project was a family event.

“It’s been a bit bittersweet for us. My dad was very involved. My kids are also very involved in helping out,” she said.

Mel who was a northeast local had a vision of creating a place with green space, highlighting nature within the community. There are currently 2,000 trees planted to keep up with his vision.

Tremblay Construction and Vital Signs helped in making a permanent statement in the blooming community with a sign placed in honour of Mel to welcome residents and visitors to Aspen Meadows.

Lacy said the sign was a perfect way to honour her dad’s legacy.

“It was just really nice to see it go up and I do feel like it is beautiful and it honours the vision that he has for Aspen Meadows.”

The sign is visible on the road to those travelling on Highway 6 and those passing by have remarked that it is adding a sense of beauty to the area already.
