Campbell's Racing Sled Dog Tours

Local business wins Hospitality Saskatchewan Tourism award

A northeast business recently won a 2023 Hospitality Saskatchewan Tourism award, down in Saskatoon.

Campbell’s Racing Sled Dog Tours was nominated for the Rookie of the Year category, earlier this month, alongside two other nominees.

They were announced as the winners earlier this week on Tuesday at an awards dinner in conjunction with the Gather Again 2023 Conference at Prairieland Park.

“Plain and simple, I was just excited and honoured to just be involved in the night and recognized by Tourism Saskatchewan,” explained owner/operator Aaron Campbell.

“It was just me and my wife that went up for the night, so the next morning at like 6 a.m. they asked if we finished first, second or third and I was proud to tell them that we won.”

Campbell’s business went up against CollabARTive Studios and Life Outdoors Gear Exchange/Tours.

He told northeastNOW it was inspiring to be alongside the two, as well as all the other provincial businesses that were a part of the evening.

“We were inspired by the other businesses, both the nominees and the winners. To close the night, there were another three people recognized for their long-standing effort and work in the tourism industry, so we were inspired by their dedication and hard work, as well as what they had to say.”

Campbell even received some advice during the evening as to how to continue to grow and evolve, each and every year.

He understands that despite the success already found in the early years of his operation, much needs to continue to be done to stay successful.

“Just keep striving to improve a little bit year by year,” Campbell added. “Saskatchewan can do anything just as good as any other province. We are capable of doing pretty much anything as well as anybody else through hard work and dedication. We can actually become somewhere where people from out of province or country are looking to go to.”

The plan for the future is to add two new tour options, as well as possibly build some nearby accommodations and make the experience feel more like an Air BnB.

Campbell and his family have been hard at work throughout the warmer months, as they ramp up even more now in preparation, in hopes of a December 1st start date.

“Winning the award in a way kind of cemented what we’ve done, you’ve started from nothing and have now reached this level, so it’s time to move forward… it’s nice to have gained that extra credibility,” Campbell mentioned.

“I don’t want to stay stagnant, if we were recognized as a rookie of the year business we better not just stay the way we are. There’s still time to improve and with improvement I think will come a larger business.”
