Nigel Bell, who performs under the name Nige B, has earned multiple 2023 Saskatchewan Music Award nominations.

Bell has been nominated for Hip Hop Artist of the Year and Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year, as well as Best Saskatchewan Album of the Year for U R What U R Volume 1.

Bell is a member of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, who in 2022, won his first Saskatchewan Music Award for Instrumental Artist of the Year.

In September, Bell released U R What U R Volume 1, which is a collaboration with artists from South Africa, Nigeria, and all across Turtle Island – from Seattle, Washington to Delaware and New York. The new album includes themes of introspection and love life transitions. It reflects on emotional depth combined with catchy melodic sounds and it has been described as Bell’s most enthralling album to date.

U R What U R Volume 1 can be found on all major streaming platforms such as Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube Music.

Another notable nomination is Eliza Doyle, who is up for Roots or Folk Artist of the Year. The Community Arts Mentorship Program (CAMP), which has done a lot of musical outreach in northern Saskatchewan and was founded by Doyle, is nominated for the Industry Achievement Award.

The awards show will occur Dec. 2 at Saskatoon’s Broadway Theatre. The public is invited to participate by voting on four Saskatchewan Music Award categories this year.

Beginning Oct, 27 through midnight Nov. 6, voting links will be open online here for Album of the Year, Industry Achievement, Music Company of the Year, and Venue or Festival of the Year.
