The Prince Albert Mintos remain at the top of the standings following another week of play in the SMAAAHL.

The Mintos had a pair of games against the Saskatoon Blazers with the first happening on Wednesday night and the other on Sunday afternoon.

Prince Albert was on the road for their game on Wednesday and came back to Hockeytown North with a 3-2 win at the SaskTel Centre. Kale Margolis had a goal and an assist while Van Taylor and Kelan Simmonds also lit the lamp in the contest. Taite Donkin tacked on an assist as did Owen Nelson and Jordon Abrametz.

Joshua Henry got the nod and picked up his second career win, stopping 33 shots.

WED. BOX SCORE

Sunday’s game was a much different story as the Blazers battled for a 4-1 triumph at the Art Hauser Centre.

Margolis had the lone goal and Nelson tallied an assist on the play. Meanwhile in goal, Brady Holtvogt turned aside 24 shots and was credited with the loss for the Mintos.

SUN. BOX SCORE

With points in both games, the line of Margolis, Donkin, and Nelson remains on fire to start the season with the trio sitting in the top five in league scoring. Nelson co-leads the league in points with 17 (11g, 6a), Margolis is a point behind him with 16 (8g, 8a), and Donkin rounds out the top five with 15 (6g, 9a).

Mintos Head Coach Tim Leonard said that he’s surprised by the hot start to the season from his top line.

“Margolis has been a great addition, [Donkin] we picked up late – very very pleasant surprise. We knew he was okay but he’s better than what we were told and he’s proven that. [Nelson] is a year older, little more mature, little bigger, little stronger. The kid can score, he’s done it at every level and now he’s starting to do it at this level.”

The Mintos are back at home for their next contest when they host the Battlefords Stars on Wednesday night. Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre.
