Tisdale celebrates 2023 appreciation night

The 2023 Tisdale Appreciation Night was held on Thursday, as the town honoured the ‘heart of their community.’

The 43rd annual awards banquet was used to celebrate the amazing accomplishments of their people during the past year.

“I’m so thrilled to be involved in hosting this evening to celebrate enormous accomplishments with our provincial and national gold recipients, coaches and instructors through our appreciation night event,” said director of parks and recreation, Lesley Thibault.

“We have shared in the celebration of many local, dedicated athletes and talented, musical artists with outstanding skill in our midst and they deserve recognition in our community when they bring home the gold.”

Tisdale & District Strings

Tori Baerg:

Baerg is 15 years old and is currently involved in Grade 7 piano. She received the 2023 Conservator Canada Medal for Excellence in Theory 2, which is the award for the highest mark in Saskatchewan in Theory 2.

Sefryn Larsen:

Larsen is 12 years old and received the 2023 Conservatory Canada Medal for Excellence in Grade 4 Classical Violin, as well as the 2023 Neil King Award for Strings.

Alison Summach:

Alison is 10 years old and received the 2023 Conservatory Canada Medal for Excellence for Level 2 Contemporary Idioms Piano.

Jennifer Summach:

Jennifer is 14 years old and received the 2023 Conservatory Canada Medal for Excellence in Grade 5 Classical Piano, Grade 5 Classical Voice, and Theory 1, as well as the 2023 Elva Maria Wiltsie Memorial Scholarship for the highest marks nationally in multiple musical disciplines.

Mackenzie Thesen:

Thesen is 13 years old and received the 2023 Conservatory Medal for Excellence in Grade 3 Classical Violin, as well as the 2023 Harry and Sylvia Noval Memorial Scholarship, which is a national award from Conservatory Canada.

Archery Club

McKenzie Squires:

Squires, along with 152 girls from across the province, gathered at the Yara Centre in Moose Jaw for the provincial competition, where she achieved a score of 269 out of 300, which not only placed her first in the high school girls’ division but also made her the highest-scoring archer in the entire province, crowning her as the NASP Provincial 3D High School Girls’ Champion.

Braxton Rodgers:

At the Provincial competition held at the Yara Centre in Moose Jaw, Rodgers scored 267 out of 300, which crowned him as the NASP 3D Target Middle School Boys Provincial Champion.

His score also positioned him 3rd out of 192 archers across the province, encompassing students from grades 4 to 12.

Rodgers later achieved another score of 267 and secured the title of the NASP 3D Target Middle School Boys Canadian National Champion. His achievement also ranked him as the 8th best male archer in the country among students in grades 4 to 12.

CJFL Prairie Conference

Austin Wood and Jakeb Cortus:

Both Wood and Cortus were a part of the Regina Thunder team who were crowned the 2022 Canadian Junior Football League Prairie Conference Provincial Champions.

Wakeboarding

Harper Thiessen and Osker Curry:

Thiessen is seven years old and Curry is eight years old and they won the 2023 U9 Female and Male Wakeboard Golds, respectively.

High Point Gymkhana Horsemanship

Lexi Mutimer:

Mutimer, alongside her horse Sierra, qualified as the Junior B Age division representative for the North East Riding Club.

They met at a provincial event to race for the buckle, competing in three events (barrels, poles and quads) and won the high point and provincial buckle.

Skate Tisdale and Sask Winter Games – Curling

Allyssa Svenson:

Svenson was a Star 8 Gold Medalist at the 2023 Starskate Provincials, as well as a Gold Medalist in Girls Curling as a member of Team Prairie Central in the 2023 Saskatchewan Winter Games.

2023 Volunteer of the Year Human Service Award

Andrea Staples:

Staples was nominated as Tisdale’s Volunteer of the Year for her help with Northeast Regional Victims Services (NERVS), Suicide Bereavement Group, United Appeal, Better Together, North East Outreach and Support Services (NEOSS), and countless more.

Staples was also recently honoured by the province with a protective service medal for her 25+ years of service with NERVS.

“Fortunately, Tisdale has many exceptional individuals such as Andrea Staples, who volunteer and believe in giving back their gift of time and energy making our community a better place with the connections they make with our citizens and organizations,” Thibault told northeastNOW.

“I’d also like to add a huge shout-out to the dedicated coaches and instructors who take our youth under their wing and guide them to strive to be their personal best. Being the best at something in our province or country is an impressive accomplishment to celebrate and the Town of Tisdale is very proud to honour these individuals.”
