Final Meeting of the Season

Mustangs ready for Teddy Bear Toss night against Klippers

Dec 8, 2023 | 1:39 PM

The Melfort Mustangs will host the Kindersley Klippers on Friday night, for the two clubs’ final meeting of the season.

The game will also mark the Mustangs’ annual Teddy Bear Toss, in support of the Salvation Army’s Christmas Campaign.

“I think the boys are getting pretty excited, definitely a lot of guys want to get this goal, I know Ty Thornton’s up there, I think he’s gonna score it tonight and get the boys rolling and I think we’re ready to go for it,” said Stangs’ defenceman, Nolan Roberts.

Melfort is coming into the contest winners of their last three games, giving them their second-longest winning streak of the season.

Their season-long happened at the very beginning of the year when they began the 2023/24 campaign, 7 and 0.

And believe it or not, the opposing group that ended the original streak was none other than the Blue and Green’s opponent tonight, in said Kindersley Klippers.

“We definitely don’t forget easily and we know that it was early in the year and we’re coming ready to throw some teddy bears on the ice tonight and let them know what’s up,” Roberts added.

“You definitely wanna win teddy bear toss night, but we don’t like these guys as it is and we want to beat him every single night they’re on the ice anyway, to begin with.”

The Stangs now have just five games remaining before the calendar year, as the rest of their opponents for 2023 are below them in the standings.

Roberts and the organization are hoping to roll right into the new year, and there’s no better way to do that than to keep winning and set a new season-long for consecutive victories.

“Obviously, we want to finish strong and win all five of these games and then pick things up right where we left off in the new year,” he told northeastNOW.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Northern Lights Palace and fans can let those teddys fly when the Blue and Green score their first goal.
