Mel-Bex Awards returning to Melfort in March

Dec 13, 2023 | 2:46 PM

The Mel-Bex Awards Gala is making a comeback.

The Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce (MTACC) is reintroducing the awards ceremony after years of dormancy.

MTACC Executive Director Cal Gratton told northeastNOW the Chamber board of directors agreed that once they reached 100 members, they would entertain a resurgence of the event. With the Chamber now at 107 members, Gratton says the time was right to bring it back.

“It is a celebration of the Melfort business community,” Gratton said. “Eight different awards will be presented. There’s also entertainment by (comedian) Kelly Taylor, and a catered meal by Page Seven Catering.”

The awards presentation hasn’t been done for several years. Part of the reason is because of COVID and everything that entailed, and another is the former Melfort and District Chamber of Commerce facing financial difficulties and ceasing operations.

“This awards presentation hasn’t been done for, oh I’m going to say six or seven years, so it’s nice to have that celebration of the community back again in 2024,” Gratton said.

The Mel-Bex Awards Gala will be held at the Kerry Vickar Centre’s CJVR Performing Arts Theatre March 23, 2024

You can reserve tickets by emailing trademelfort@melfort.ca, or by calling Cal at 306-921-3273. A table can be purchased for $700. Individual tickets are $100.

Sponsorship packages have been sent to local businesses.

Gratton thanks the Melfort business community for not only giving feedback on the Mel-Bex Awards Gala, but also for their sponsorships that continue to come into the Chamber.

Meanwhile, the MTACC promotions committee continues their efforts to line up one event per month, according to Gratton. That includes the Chamber’s annual Show and Shine, being held in downtown Melfort on Father’s Day weekend in 2024.
