Sign up for your house to be on the Melfort Twinkle Tour map

With the weather being so warm, it probably doesn’t seem like the Christmas season to many people.

But the holiday spirit is strong in Melfort, as the City Wide Twinkle Tour is coming up next week.

“We want to see all the houses,” Recreation and Aquatics Manager Shannon Marshall told northeastNOW. “If you have one light strand or 100, big or small, we want to see all the light displays.”

Marshall said the addresses are added to the map, which is available as a hard copy and on an interactive Google Map.

According to Marshall, many neighbourhoods across Melfort are well-lit with Christmas lights this year.

“Everybody’s really in the festive spirit, and it kind of just brings that happiness of the holidays to you when you drive around and see all these really wonderful light displays in Melfort,” Marshall explained.

The Twinkle Tour will start at the Kerry Vickar Centre on Wednesday at 6 p.m. There will be hot chocolate and cookies, maps will be available on-site, and Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be at the centre for pictures.

People can then follow the map to look at this year’s fantastic light displays and vote for the People’s Choice awards via text. The owner of the home with the most votes will receive a gift card, and Communities in Bloom will also be on hand to judge the best displays.

A ‘lights bingo sheet’ will be available for you to fill out as you tour the houses across the city, and Marshall said the Twinkle Tour also coincides with the drive-thru light displays at the Melfort Museum.

Marshall added the SaskTel Pioneers have donated 50 seats on the City of Melfort Handi-Van for seniors to take in the light displays. She said seniors can book their spots through the SaskTel Pioneers.

The annual event will be held on Wednesday and Friday is the final chance to sign up to have your house put on the Twinkle Tour map.
