The Melfort Mustangs have shored up one of their most important pieces for the future in a 2024/25 commitment.

Jaxon Kehrig, a 2007-born forward and former draft pick of the organization has agreed to sign with the team for next season.

Kehrig was the club’s first-round pick in the 2023 SJHL draft, having been selected ninth overall.

The Bjorkdale product is currently a member of the Tisdale Trojans, serving as their assistant captain.

“This is very exciting for our future to have Jaxon commit to our program, and we appreciate the trust and commitment from him and his family,” Mustangs’ head coach and general manager, Trevor Blevins, said. “He has shown continued development on and off the ice this season that will ensure that he will be an impact player in our lineup.”

Kehrig has already had an impact on Melfort’s lineup during the 2023/24 season, as an affiliate player.

The six-foot, 165-pounder has suited up twice for the Blue and Green during this year’s campaign, scoring his first career SJHL goal against the Estevan Bruins, before setting up his Tisdale teammate, Tristin Ziola for the game-winner against the Melville Millionaires.

During his 27 games played with the Trojans so far this year, Kehrig has recorded nine goals and 13 assists.

The newest member of the Stangs will play his final SMAAAHL game of the season on Wednesday when Tisdale hosts the Prince Albert Mintos.
