Dec 21, 2023 | 5:53 PM

The Nipawin Hawks have forfeited a previous win of theirs, which came against the Melfort Mustangs on Dec. 15, 5-4 in overtime.

The Hawks were required to forfeit the victory, due to the SJHL finding out that they had used an ineligible player.

According to section 4.1 of the SJHL Rules and Regulations, “No player shall be permitted to participate in a League game unless he appears on that team’s player protected lists. In addition to the right of the Commissioner to forfeit a game for the use of an ineligible player, the offending team will receive a mandatory fine of four hundred and fifty dollars ($450.00).

An ineligible player was used for Nipawin during both their Dec. 15 and 16 games against the Mustangs, however, Melfort already won the game on Dec. 16, 4-1.

With the forfeit, the Hawks are now 14-16-0-2 on the year, as they had both points taken away from their win, while the Mustangs now have a record of 23-9-2, earning an extra point with the victory.

The ineligible player has yet to be identified by the SJHL, while the league also stated, “Notification of Protected Players Lists, Certified Players and Affiliated Players are to be completed through the electronic registration process.
