Several local communities have been approved for grants for traffic safety improvements.

The Provincial Traffic Safety Fund is supporting 62 projects province-wide as part of their commitment to safety.

The Rural Municipality (RM) of Bjorkdale was approved for $4,268 for a solar radar speed sign at Crooked River.

A grant of $8,372 was approved for radar speed signs in the RM of Humboldt.

A speed awareness project for the RM of Lake Lenore will receive $3,500.

Speed reduction in the RM of Nipawin will get a grant for $7,928.

A grant of $29,809 has been approved for speed management in Porcupine Plain, while a similar project in Wakaw will get $16,154.

And a highway safety crossing in Watson has been approved for a grant of $82,032.

The Provincial Traffic Safety Fund Grants total nearly $1.3 million, and since the fund was established in 2019, more than $10 million has been provided for 733 projects across Saskatchewan.

“This has been an extremely successful program, allowing communities throughout Saskatchewan to access non-tax revenue to fund many traffic safety projects,” Minister Responsible for SGI Dustin Duncan said in a news release.

Representatives from the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association, the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities, the Prince Albert Grand Council, the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Highways and SGI review the applications, with grants awarded twice a year.

The grants are awarded using proceeds from photo speed enforcement.
