Nipawin re-branding underway

A new look for the Town of Nipawin.

The community has undergone a re-branding, with a new slogan and logo.

Nipawin’s new slogan is ‘Exceptional by Nature’, and as general manager of Community Services Derek Seckinger explained to northeastNOW, it started through the town’s strategic plan.

“It’s always been one of many slogans [Nipawin has had],” Seckinger said. “We went through the re-branding process to provide consistency and structure throughout the day-to-days within our organization.”

Seckinger said the town had a lot of inconsistencies within their logos and slogans, and there was no clear brand for the community. He added the new slogan is well-suited for Nipawin.

“‘Exceptional by Nature’, I think it fits in so much; the people’s nature, the area in which we live, everything we have,” Seckinger explained. “It’s an exceptional place to be.”

The word ‘exceptional’ was brought up a number of times in workshops about the new slogan, according to Seckinger.

A ‘Brand Foundation and Tone of Voice’ document Seckinger sent to northeastNOW said the brand attributes outline that the community ‘strive[s] to provide exceptional, powerful and fun experiences.’ The document also highlighted the welcoming, vibrant, and community aspects of Nipawin.

The logo and slogan will be implemented over the next couple of years. The town trucks have undergone a refresh and a new Nipawin website with current logos is in the works. Town letterhead will be changed.

The town signs entering Nipawin will not change as there is no current slogan on them. According to Seckinger, they may be painted in the future as needed as they age.

Seckinger said the town tried to keep costs down when doing the re-branding, with a lot of the graphic design being done in-house. He said about 95 per cent of the logo redesign was done by staff, with the other 5 per cent used for a consultant who oversaw the re-branding process.

Seckinger added another goal is to have a more consistent structure to communications, including press releases.
