Hutchinson named SJHL MVP of the Week

Melfort Mustangs forward Aidyn Hutchinson has been honoured as the SJHL’s SGEU MVP of the Week.

Hutchinson lit the lamp on a handful of occasions this past weekend, during a pair of division games.

The 20-year-old scored a total of five times, three of which came in a hat trick effort against the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Friday, as his club earned a point in a 6-5 overtime loss.

Then, on Saturday, the assistant captain added a pair of goals in a 3-0 shutout victory over the number-one ranked Flin Flon Bombers.

Hutchinson has been on fire since mid-November, registering at least a point in 16 of his last 17 contests.

The St. Albert, Alta. product now also sits in eighth place among league point-getters with 42 (18 goals and 24 assists) through 29 games played.

Meanwhile, other weekly award winners included a Nipawin Hawks duo in Saskatoon natives’, Alex Bernauer and Braxton Buckberger.

Bernauer was named the Bourgault Forward of the Week, putting up four goals and two assists in three games, while Buckberger claimed the Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Week for his two goals and four assists in three games.

Melville Millionaires’ Colby Ball also picked up the SuperU Defenceman of the Week, while Yorkton Terriers Jye Zawatzky and Ethan Farrow grabbed the DirectWest Rookie of the Week and SaskTel Goalie of the Week honours, respectively.
