Tobin Lake named top 9 ice fishing spot in Canada

Tobin Lake has been named one of the top nine best ice fishing destinations by online platform FishingBooker.

The site’s news release said the lake is best known for its impressive walleye, including an ice fishing world record catch back in 2005, but is also recognized for its “massive northern pike, plentiful yellow perch, and lake whitefish.”

Outreach and PR Specialist Vanja Polovina told northeastNOW in a statement that the magazine lauded Tobin for its stellar fishing opportunities and trophy fish potential.

“Monster walleye exceeding the 10-pound mark, an impressive northern pike over 40 inches in length, and of course the ice fishing world record,” Polovina said.

Other factors that put Tobin on the top nine list include the diversity of fishing species, its closeness to amenities like lodges, accessibility, and convenience.

The area’s diversity also played a factor, according to Polovina.

“[The diversity] helps anglers unwind and relax considering it’s surrounded by forests and wilderness,” Polovina explained in the release. “It’s great for recreational opportunities like boating, sledding, and skiing.”

Joining Tobin Lake on Fishingbooker’s list of best ice fishing destinations are Golden, B.C., Muskoka Lakes, ON, Sainte-Anne-de-la-Perade, QC, Cold Lake, Alta, Falcon Lake, MB, The Shacks/Kennebecasis River, NB, Great Slave Lake, NWT, and Muskrat Lake, ON.
