Trial dates set for Cumberland House murder case

Five days in September has been set aside to hear the circumstances surrounding a young woman’s death at Cumberland House.

That was confirmed during a pre-trial hearing on Monday at Court of King’s Bench in Melfort.

Alvin Thomas, 41, is facing a charge of second degree murder in the May, 2022 death of Marisha Hoksbergen.

Hoksbergen, whose nickname was Pritch, was 24 and leaves behind two young boys. She and Thomas had been involved in a relationship.

At a rally in April of last year, Marisha’s father Morley Hoksbergen, said the family did not know anything about what happened, and noted the case shows the need for early intervention in cases where problems are suspected.

Hoksbergen explained he had concerns about his daughter’s relationship with Thomas, but when he went to police, he was told there was nothing they could do.

Thomas remains in custody. The jury trial has been scheduled to run Sept. 9 to Sept. 13.
