Sask. Baseball Hall of Fame seeks support as membership dips

The Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is in a tough spot.

According to a statement from president and CEO Jane Shury, the hall of fame in Battleford has seen a great decline in both memberships and donations which, along with rising costs, have left the organization in a tough financial spot.

“Last year, 2023, this organization celebrated 40 years of operating only on funds raised through our annual fund-raising projects that includes both membership fees and financial donations,” the statement read. “But we need your help now!”

Shury called on the public – including the hall’s many inductees – to consider buying a membership or making a donation to help support the organization into the future. Annual memberships cost $20, and lifetime memberships are available for $200.

The hall of fame chronicles Saskatchewan’s baseball history dating all the way back to 1879, when the game “played a very important role in the settling and development of our province.”

The hall of fame is also home to the largest baseball bat in Canada, which is on display outside the museum.
