PARTNERS Family Services in Humboldt selected as Integrated Youth Services site

Feb 9, 2024 | 2:00 PM

Four organizations across the province have been chosen to operate Saskatchewan’s Integrated Youth Service (IYS) sites.

One of the four is PARTNERS Family Services in Humboldt which will help deliver support to young people aged 12 to 25 and their caregivers.

“I’m pleased these communities will host Integrated Youth Services sites, making it easier for our young people to get the services they’re looking for all in one location,” said Mental Health and Addictions Minister Tim McLeod.

“This is another step forward in our government’s plan to better serve the needs of youth and their families with coordinated access to a variety of supports.”

The location in Humboldt, as well as the other three provincial sites, was selected by the John Howard Society of Saskatchewan (JHSS), the group coordinating the IYS sites, in partnership with the Government of Saskatchewan.

The JHSS is implementing the provincial model for IYS, providing rapid access to youth-targeted supports, with a focus on prevention and early intervention.

“In having conversations and having connected with PARTNERS Family Services in Humboldt, we were very excited to be able to bring them alongside, knowing there are many young people in our communities across the province. I know within Humboldt they would definitely be so well serviced by this type of initiative happening in the community,” explained Pamela Reimer, director of IYS.

Services offered are typically for mental health and addictions, peer support, physical health, education, employment and training, cultural and traditional supports, and social and community services.

“Humboldt really stood out to our committee and our youth in just the way they chose to approach it, they really wanted our youth involved, and they really wanted to ensure that young people were receiving the services they needed when they needed it and how they needed it,” Reimer added.

“They also really understood that youth need to be at the forefront of how these integrated youth services are created, how those different types of core services really needed to come together and how they needed to be created for the community to ensure that they work for our young people.”

Work on the sites is underway with services set to begin in late 2024 or early 2025.

In Humboldt specifically, they have found a space they believe will work, so they have started some of the renovations that need to happen there.

IYS is a national and international movement aimed at reimagining how youth and their caregivers find and access the resources, services, and support they need.

The inter-sectoral initiative includes leadership and support from the ministries of Health, Education, Social Services, Justice and Attorney General, Corrections, Policing and Public Safety, Advanced Education, Immigration and Career Training, Government Relations, and Parks, Culture and Sport.
