Feb 21, 2024 | 2:40 PM

For the third week in a row, a Melfort Mustang has made the cut for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s (SJHL) Players of the Week honourees.

Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Week: Clay Sleeva (from Canora, Sask.)

Mustang forward Clay Sleeva was named the Saskatchewan Player of the Week, as his Melfort club won two of their three games.

After being shut down on Wednesday against Flin Flon, the 2003-born helped his team respond on Friday in Estevan, as he and his two linemates combined for 12 points in a 6-4 victory.

Following Sleeva’s four-point effort against the Bruins (a goal and three assists), he scored twice on Saturday in Weyburn, one of which was the shootout winner.

That completed the southern sweep and season series sweep over the Red Wings for the second year in a row.

The Canora product is now up to 43 points in 45 games this season, with 21 of those points coming since he joined the Blue and Green, which was just 17 games ago.

Weekly Stats: 3GP, 2G-3A, 5PTS

The member of the Stangs to appear on the Players of the Week the previous time was Zac Somers when the Melfort product was named the Forward of the Week.

Prior to that, James Venne earned Co-Goalie of the Week, along with Goalie of the Month in January.

In the past seven days, the Mustangs have clinched a playoff spot and are now back in third place in league standings after the Humboldt Broncos were swept at home by the Kindersley Klippers over the Family Day long weekend.

That also moved the Stangs back to third place in the SJHL’s weekly Power Rankings.

The Blue and Green will now only play one game this week when they host the Melville Millionaires on Friday night at the Northern Lights Palace.
