New Humboldt Detachment Commander enjoying his new home

The Humboldt RCMP Detachment has a new leader who is quite happy to be in the northeast community.

Staff Sergeant Rod Rudnisky has settled into his new home these past two months, coming down from up north in Pelican Narrows.

“So far Humboldt is treating my wife Sheila and I very well. It’s a very good community and I’m happy to be here,” the Saskatchewan native told northeastNOW.

“I grew up in Norquay, so I’m very familiar with a lot of places here. Prior to joining the RCMP, I lived in Saskatoon for about nine years and I always liked Humboldt. Ever since I was a little kid, I remember coming through Humboldt and thinking it was a nice place, wanting to come live here one day. This time I was lucky it was open, so I was able to transfer here.”

This is Rudnisky’s fourth detachment to command, previously holding the same role in Pelican Narrows, as well as Southend and Hudson Bay.

Other posts he had were Craik, Green Lake, Sandy Bay, Punnichy, and Leduc, Alberta. This marks his 20th year of service.

His hope is to increase public relations within the community.

“I believe the RCMP has a good relationship with the community. What’s important to me is a lot of proactive work, especially when it comes to youth. Having positive interactions with the youth, I believe that we’re able to be an influence. I know when I was growing up, RCMP members had a lot of influence on me. I know the importance of it,” Rudnisky added.

“I’d like to be involved in the community and all members here are quite involved with the community, so I believe it’s a good fit.”

Since joining, crime has been down in the community, at least compared to last year. Incidents decreased in January 2024 compared to January 2023 by roughly 30 per cent.
