RBC Community Ambassador Night

Mustangs host Millionaires for lone game of the week

Feb 23, 2024 | 4:49 PM

The Melfort Mustangs only play once this week and it’s at home against the Melville Millionaires.

This will be the fourth and final meeting between these two clubs this season, as the Mills currently hold the series edge, two games to one.

Melfort is coming off a pair of wins over the weekend against the Estevan Bruins and Weyburn Red Wings, as they’ll now look to make it three in a row.

“Just got to keep going, just got to get the boys going, don’t let anyone down and just keep scoring goals like we can,” explained forward Tye Evans, who found the back of the net for his first one of the year on Saturday.

“It felt so good to get the monkey off my back, I needed that.”

While the 2003-born hasn’t suited up against Melville yet this season, his team has informed him about the troubles they pose.

This season Melville has beaten each of the top four teams at least twice.

“They kind of pressure really hard so just gotta move pucks around, get it deep and do our job,” Evans added. “Boys just gotta get down deep and get the win again if we can.”

The Mustangs are continuing to push for a top-two spot in the SJHL standings, as they trail the Broncos by just one point for third place with a game in hand, while also sitting behind the second-place North Stars by five points, with one less game remaining.

Friday is also RBC Community Ambassador night in town, as the captain of the Blue and Green, Leith Olafson, will be honoured.
