Bondy granted bail at hearing in Melfort

Mar 28, 2024 | 1:27 PM

The man charged in a recent firearms trafficking investigation in the Hudson Bay area has been granted bail.

Steven Bondy, 56, appeared in Melfort Provincial Court via video Thursday morning.

Evidence heard at the bail hearing was placed under a publication ban.

His attorney, Ron Piche, appeared by phone and argued his client should be granted bail, while the Crown argued against bail, citing the number of firearms seized from his home among the reasons.

Judge Lloyd Stang granted bail with several conditions attached, including Bondy living at his home, adhering to an 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew, and no possession of firearms, ammunition, or weapons.

Bondy was arrested at a home in the Viellardville area on Mar. 6.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Apr. 23 in Hudson Bay.
