Mustangs going for 3-0 stranglehold in Humboldt

Apr 9, 2024 | 1:04 PM

The Melfort Mustangs can go up three games to none as they travel to Humboldt for Game 3 on Tuesday night.

After taking Games 1 and 2 over the Humboldt Broncos at home last weekend, Melfort will try to continue that impressive run in Game 3.

“We’re on the road so we just need to keep it simple, get pucks deep, bang bodies and if we just play a simple road game, then we should be fine,” explained Mustangs forward, Ryan Duguay.

“They’re down two to nothing, so they don’t want to go down three because that just puts a lot of pressure on them, so this next game is huge for both of us and we want to take it to them.”

The Mustangs did not win Game 3 on the road against the Estevan Bruins in their first-round series but did take Game 4.

Those mark the only two road games for Melfort so far, as they’ve played five of their seven at home.

Now, it’s back to playing against the crowd, as they hope to also play spoiler.

“We kind of expect it to be a packed barn, it’s a little bit smaller so they’re gonna feel like they’re on top of us but we just got to kind of zone it out and maybe use the energy to our advantage and try to get some that way and just give it to them,” Duguay added.

“I thought we had a pretty good game three honestly, down three to one, but I thought we were outplaying them and we finally got our luck in the third which is good, so hopefully we keep that momentum and energy going, and bring it into game four.”

Duguay has been tremendous in this series, putting up two goals in each game. While another performance like that is hard to replicate, he will try his best to keep the hot streak going.

“Probably not gonna score two again I’ll be honest, but I’ll try my best, we’ll see how it goes, pucks have been going my way right now and that’s not always gonna happen, but I’ll try my best for sure,” he said.

Game 3 begins at 7:30 p.m. from the Elgar Petersen Arena, with the Suncrest College pregame show starting at 7:15 p.m. on 105 CJVR.
