Sod turned on new care home project in St. Brieux

The sod has been turned on a 15-bed personal care home in St. Brieux.

Several dignitaries were on hand April 2 for the ceremony at 213 Second Ave. N. to commemorate the beginning of construction.

The St. Brieux Manor Inc. Committee, a non-profit organization made up of eight board members and others have formed a fundraising group for the project, which will be built by Zak’s Building Group.

Representatives from the Town of St. Brieux, the province, and the federal government were at the ceremony to congratulate the committee on the beginning of the project. St. Brieux Manor Inc. Chair Pauline Boyer told northeastNOW the committee members deserve praise for their tireless dedication to this project. She also thanked Bourgault Industries, other local businesses and organizations, and various individuals for their generosity.

“Without this financial support, we wouldn’t have realized this project and wouldn’t be celebrating here today,” Boyer explained.

She also thanked Melfort MLA Todd Goudy and local Yorkton-Melville MP Cathay Wagantall for attending the ceremony.

Boyer said the community hopes the project keeps vulnerable seniors in St. Brieux so they can be cared for close to home.

“Our original goal was to bridge a healthcare gap – homecare availability is very limited in St. Brieux — (and) open up homes for new families and help grow our community,” Boyer said. “We are very hopeful that this project will bear fruits of our labour.”

The committee’s goal is to open the care home this fall or early next year.
