Community salutes Melfort Mustangs as they leave for Flin Flon

The Melfort Mustangs had a rousing sendoff on Thursday as they prepare for their Canterra Seeds final series against the Flin Flon Bombers.

Fans greeted the team’s bus as they departed for Flin Flon. The bus was escorted by emergency personnel complete with sirens.

The Mustangs are coming off a hard-fought seven-game victory over the Humboldt Broncos, with four games going to overtime, and all but one decided by only one goal.

Meanwhile, the Bombers have been idle since Apr. 9 after sweeping the Battlefords North Stars.

The Mustangs and Bombers split their season series at three games apiece, each scoring 14 goals in the six games.

Flin Flon won 2 of 3 at the Whitney Forum, while Melfort took 2 of 3 at the Northern Lights Palace.

The series starts in Flin Flon on Friday and Saturday, with puck drop at 6:30 Saskatchewan time. You can hear the games on 105 CJVR with Ben Tompkins.

Melfort will host games 3 and 4 on Wednesday and Thursday. The Mustangs sold out the deciding game seven against Humboldt.
