Strawberry Tea

Strawberry tea sweet way to bring in Mother’s Day

May 7, 2024 | 5:00 PM

This Mother’s Day, celebrate with a sweet twist.

The third annual Old Fashioned Tea Party at the Fred Light Museum will take place on May 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. and all manner of delectable eats will be served up.

“We have little guessing games, there’s a door prize for people to put their name in,” said Bernadette Leslie, museum manger.

“There’ll be a sit down serving of strawberry tea and short cake and soft drinks and strawberry punch, coffee, tea…it’s all decorated up really nicely.”

The strawberry tea’s origins began years ago. Leslie explained that it was quite successful but when other places started having similar events, it “petered out.” A few years ago, Leslie once again approached the board to see if they could bring it back. Since then, they have sold out each year – this year is no exception and is a way for people to be drawn into the museum.

“The main building is open if anybody wants a tour during that time,” she said.

Meanwhile, to get guests into the high tea spirit, there will be live music and an art club selling fascinators that offer a pop of colour and unique designs that will be sure to start conversations.

“It’s a nice little event that people enjoy putting on and having their hats on and a fancy event,” she added of the sit-down serviced experience.

“My favourite is the people and then the fascinator hats – to see the different designs that they come up with for the different years.”
