The Melfort Fire Department now has another tool to help them fight fires.

They have acquired a new Rosenbauer T-Rex Articulating Platform truck.

Fire Chief Leonard Whitney told northeastNOW the unit replaces the former stick-ladder unit.

“Our new truck has a basket on it which allows us to take members straight from the ground and lift them up to whatever elevation we need them to get to to attack fires,” explained Whitney.

There is another added feature to the new truck.

“We have 115 feet of reach with this unit and the bucket, whereas our previous ladder only would reach 70 feet.”

Whitney said the extended reach allows them to reach any building in the city, including Diefenbaker Place. The new truck gives firefighters peace-of-mind that they have the right equipment to tackle any fires they might face in the city.

The department will be selling their former stick-ladder truck.
