Mustangs book ticket to semis after Miramichi defeats Winkler in a shootout

The Melfort Mustangs have been guaranteed a berth in this year’s Centennial Cup semi-final round.

Following the Miramichi Timberwolves 3-2 shootout victory over the Winkler Flyers on Tuesday night, it was determined that Melfort will be the top team in Group B, no matter the result in their final game.

All three teams have eight points right now, however, the Mustangs have the head-to-head tiebreaker over both the Flyers and the Timberwolves.

The semi-finals will be on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Saskatchewan time, respectively.

The Stangs will now compete for the top spot in either group, as the best team gets to pick which time they play on the weekend.

For them to have a shot, the Collingwood Blues can not win their game in regulation against the Navan Grads, on Wednesday afternoon.

The Blue and Green will conclude their round-robin Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. Saskatchewan time, against the host Oakville Blades.
